A New Challenge at School
This week, our school welcomed a transfer student with some special emotional needs. She seems quiet, but we soon learned that she sometimes struggles with her feelings and may even harm herself when she's feeling down.
This is a serious concern. As a teacher and administrator, I believe every student deserves a safe compassionate environment where they can learn and glow. But this situation is not easy. The principal is worried that her situation may be beyond what we can manage with our current resources.
We're discussing how to provide the right mental health support for her. I hope we can find a way to help her feel safe, supported, and understood. Everyone deserves a second chance, especially a young person who is trying to find their place.
This experience reminds me of the importance of emotional well-being in education. Academic success is important, but if a student is not emotionally healthy, learning becomes very difficult. We must work together to create a school where students not only study well, but also feel well.
I feel that this is a dilemma. If I stand with the school, perhaps accepting this student is not the right decision - there are too many risks. But as a teacher, I truly hope I can help her. I believe she needs support, not rejection. Deep down, I want to give her a chance. Yet I don't know what the right decision is. I just hope we can find a solution that balances compassion and responsibility.
